Posh - Albion 0-2 (0-2) FA cup 3r omk

West Brom ended Peterborough's dreams of an upset with a comfortable FA Cup third round replay victory.

On-loan Arsenal striker Jay Simpson opened the scoring in the 18th minute, collecting a pass from Roman Bednar, turning and lashing in a 20-yard drive.

Paul Robinson doubled the lead after 'Boro failed to clear a free-kick.

Peterborough went close with a Charlie Lee chip that went wide, but West Brom comfortably held on and will face Burnley at home in the next round.

Darren Ferguson's Peterborough side had every right to be hopeful of creating an upset after their impressive draw in the original tie at The Hawthorns.

However, the result flattered Posh as Albion took a the grip of the game and never let go, although the home side did create the first chance, Lee chipping narrowly wide on eight minutes.

Simpson, in only his second game since arriving on loan from Arsenal, was a constant threat and it was no surprise when he latched onto a header from Bednar, before swivelling and lashing home the opener.

The game was ostensibly over eight minutes before half-time when Kim Do-Heon swung in a superb cross from the right which was met by the unmarked Robinson at the far post to head home. In the second half, Posh keeper Joe Lewis was called into action on a number of occasions to deny Felipe Teixeira and Bednar as Albion continued to dominate.

The home side's only chance of note fell to Lee, who forced Carson to tip his deft header over the bar to safety. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson:

"The first goal was always going to be an important one. You don't really want to chase the game against West Brom.

"If you continually give the ball away to good players you will get punished and that is what we did tonight.

"We could be playing them in the Championship next season but after tonight we are well short."

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray:
"Maybe Jay Simpson's quality and ability to score goals like he did tonight will help us in the Premier League.

"Our team needs help in the goalscoring department. It needs creativity, because generally, week-in and week-out, ball retention is not a problem for us.

"We saw at The Hawthorns how well Peterborough can play but I don't think they reached those heights tonight."
