Borja Valero har (endelig) signert for rekordsummen £4,75 mill.

Borja Valero
I hvert fall i følge mange 'sikre' kilder. Blir nok presentert offisielt i morgen.

22/8 oppdatert.

West Brom: Borja Valero in promising link

In relation to West Brom's reported interest in Borja Valero of Mallorca, I can tell you that the player's agent, Alejandro Camacho, who owns 50% of the player's registration, is happy to sell the player to the Premiership club.

West Brom are willing to pay the whole of the 6 million euros buy out clause so, in theory, it is a deal that could take place fairly soon.

ImageHowever, there is one thing that might stop it: Vicente Grande, the chairman of Mallorca, was recently jeered by his own fans who have accused him of selling the club to the wrong man (the British investor Paul Davidson). He has also been criticised for selling too many players and not buying any new ones – that is why the Nunes deal with WB fell through.

Borja is happy to go however, and if WB insist in paying the buy out clause, there is nothing stopping it. I do know that a move to the Premiership will see him, at least, double what he is earning at Mallorca, and that undoubtedly appeals to him. He fancies the idea of testing himself in another league and is eager for a new adventure abroad. Furthermore, he has spoken to a couple of players playing in England already, and they have done a very good job in convincing him to come.

If the deal were to go ahead, it represents a very exciting signing for West Bromwich Albion: a club I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this season as I love their manager and their brand of football. For those of you who know nothing about Borja Valero, I can tell you that he is a midfield player very much in the mould of a Xavi or Iniesta - only not as high quality, but that's not a criticism as there are very few players in world football with the quality of those two and he is only young.

However, as a product of the youth system at Real Madrid he comes with a very solid grounding in the game and an excellent footballing education. He has an excellent eye for a pass, great vision and is tactically aware, although he doesn't score perhaps quite as often as he should do.

His ideal position is in the centre of a midfield, with at least one - but preferably two - defensive midfielders playing behind him. However, like Arteta, he is also an option out on the right hand side of a 4-4-2: not as a winger, but certainly as a creative outlet. He's not a player who will run with the ball - like a winger - but he can hold on to the ball when required and he will open up defences.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is rumoured to be considering a summer move for Borja Valero, the Real Mallorca midfielder who only joined the Islanders last summer from Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Valero’s agent Alexander Caamano has insisted that Rafa Benitez is a fan of the player and that he could make a summer £5 million offer for the player.

Liverpool are interested in the boy after monitoring his progress last season," he said. "I hope to speak with Mallorca about this matter in the next few days.
